Nine steps to a leadership mindset and finding a new way forward
Here are nine steps you need to take every day before you seek to lead others:
1. Communicate your why — You should be able to communicate your purpose in a way that is simple and relatable to everyone around you. When communicating your purpose pay attention to facilitate communication in both directions.
2. Position yourself — Share your stories with others to demonstrate how you are dealing with negative changes and making the most out of positive opportunities.

3. Listen to learn — Malcom Forbes said that “the art of conversation lies in listening.” I can’t emphasize it enough: Do more listening than talking. Encourage others to share their stories and insights with you and try to learn from them.

4. Prioritise “great work” — First work on what matters most.
5. Stand out — Create chances to “go the extra mile”. Others will take notice. Maybe you will have the chance to inspire some along the way.
6. Let go of needing to “get credit.”—It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
7. Control your thoughts — You cannot afford to let one negative thought into your mind because these spread and manifest in your words and actions.
8. Set aside time to be there — Spend time with others to let them know you are invested.
9. Make growth time — Make time for your own personal growth.
